A Technology Check 6 Insightful Questions

It’s necessary to step back and objectively observe how we spend time to see if we are overdoing an activity. This is especially the case for technology.

Check to see how many hours you spend using technology each day.

  1. What time do you wake up and what time do you go to bed? In between wakefulness and sleep how many hours do you spend with technology?
  2. Are your computer and phone usually on all day? Does your profession require them to be on all day?
  3. Is turning on the computer and phone the first thing you do in the morning?  – This is a bad habit that shows you’re deeply attached. Examples of healthy morning activities are yoga, meditation, rituals, prayer, saying affirmations and watching the sun rise.
  4. On the average day what meaningful activities do you do that do not involve technology?
  5. Do you feel lost or incomplete without your phone? – If you feel incomplete without it then you need more than ever to regulate your technology use.
  6. Can you remember the last time you spent a day without using technology?

I love technology and social media but I realize that using these things in excess is unhealthy.

Many people get frustrated and delete their social media accounts because they lack the discipline to use them in moderation. This is usually followed by reactivaing the account or creating a new one. Hence, more frustration.

Use technology in moderation and stay afloat.
